Staying at Nanuku Auberge Resort in Fiji

Nanuku Resort in Fiji is a part of the Auberge Resort Collection, a chain that is recognized around the world. Above all, this resort is one of the favorites of our travels. From the people to the experiences, Nanuku is among the best in the world. Here’s our review of our stay at Nanuku Resort in Fiji.

GETTING THERE

The easiest way of getting to Nanuku Resort is by car and it is the cheapest option. The drive from Nadi is 2 hours from and in turn, is not the quickest way of getting there. On the other hand, it is a great way to see the beauty of the southern coast and unique villages along the way.

You can travel by private transfer or a group transfer service. Nanuku Resort offers private transfer bookings, or you can use another car service. There are also options to book transfers to and from other resorts by private car.

Flying on a jet into Nanuku’s private airstrip is the only other transportation option. The flight is bookable through Nanuku or your travel agent. Nanuku can accommodate most preferred flight times and needs. However, it is best to book in advance to secure your preferred time of flight. And note, flights are subject to weather conditions.

WELCOME TO NANUKU

Upon arrival at Nanuku, the staff will greet you in the most authentic Fijian way. Welcoming a guest is of the utmost importance in the Fijian culture, and at Nanuku to send guests home with a story. When you first step foot at Nanuku, you are greeted by name with a fresh beverage and towel, a Fijian story told by a warrior and a Fijian ceremony with traditional wood drums.

After the ceremony, staff will escort you to the lobby for your detailed introduction to the resort. Moreover, at this time, you are able to select meal packages, book excursions and ask questions you have about your stay. From there, your room awaits.

Your room will have fresh fruits, a resort map, important messages and events for the day, and a guide to all things available at Nanuku. The staff will show you around the room, explain any must-knows and leave you to settle in.

ACCOMMODATIONS

AUBERGE VILLAS

The Auberge Villas are the newest accommodations on the property. These villas have a modern spin on the classic Fijian bures seen throughout the rest of the resort. Nodding to traditional Fijian designs, the villas still hold their authenticity to Fiji.

There are four different types of Auberge Villas, 0ne and two-bedroom garden villas or one and two-bedroom beachfront villas.

One bedroom is single-story villas, two bedrooms are two-story villas and come with a kitchenette. Both one and two-bedroom villas come with private plunge pools, pool bures, outdoor tables, and lounge furniture.

VILLAS

In addition, the original Villas at Nanuku are traditional and resemble authentic Fijian homes. From the intricate details of furniture and design to the private amenities, these villas make you feel right at home.

There are two different Villa options, the Beachfront Spa Villa and the Two Bedroom Beachfront Duplex Villa. Each villa comes with a private outdoor oasis that is inclusive of a plunge pool or hot tub, cabana, shower, and garden.

SUITES

Furthermore, the suites at Nanuku Resort are another great option for couples. There are two different suite options here, the Beach Front Suites and Nanuku Suites. These villas are duplex style, the top floor of the villa is the Nanuku Suite and the ground level room is the Beach Front Suite. The room layouts are identical, the only difference is the amenities.

First, the Beach Front Suite has its own private plunge pool, cabana, and garden with an outdoor shower. Since this suite is ground level, it has direct access to the beach which is another add-on in comparison to the Nanuku Suite.

Inversely, the Nanuku Suite has a private balcony with a daybed lounge and an ocean view. One thing about this one is that the balcony overlooks the unit below, so you can see the Beach Front Suite’s garden and pool but can’t access it.

RESIDENCES

Lastly, Nanuku has spacious residences offering the most luxurious and private accommodations at the resort. There are six residences that range from 1 bedroom to 6 and offer full kitchens, large private pools, and a whole lot more. Let’s go through each residence and what they offer.

ONE BEDROOM BEACHFRONT POOL RESIDENCE

First, the One Bedroom Residence is the largest one-bedroom option at Nanuku and acts as your own private house. This residence option is perfect for couples on a longer stay, looking for a private and luxurious experience.

TWO BEDROOM BEACHFRONT RESIDENCE

Similarly, the Two Bedroom Residence is another private home option. With the same amenities and layout listed above, the only difference is that this private residence has its second guest room detached just a few steps away from the main house.

THREE AND FOUR BEDROOM HILLTOP OCEANVIEW RESIDENCES

These accommodation options exude luxury, with unparalleled amenities, space, privacy and ocean views. The three and four-bedroom residences sit among the modernized accommodations but act as if they are on their own island.

SIX BEDROOM OWNER’S RESIDENCE

Lastly, the most luxurious and exclusive accommodation is Nanuku’s 5,380 square foot mini-mansion. The large accommodation features 6 bedrooms, 3 pools, nearly 360-degree views, wraparound deck and so much more. The amenities listed above for the other residences are also included, making this accommodation the most premium and exclusive.

FOOD

At Nanuku, you will experience Executive Chef Oliver Scarf’s three-course dinner menus that illuminate his artful takes on South Pacific dishes using the freshest locally sourced ingredients. Kanavata Restaurant is an Andrew Harper award winner and was the ANZ Best Dining Experience winner in 2016.

Nanuku focuses not only on the reputation of its food but also its top of the line dining experiences. These experiences include private cliffside dinners, in-residence dining, cinematic dinner (cliffside dinner + a movie), destination dining, and treetop dinners.

See below for some incredible dishes we got to enjoy as well as a sample menu.

Due to the short length of our stay, we were not able to experience a whole lot on this list, but the one we did get to experience was the private Nanuku Island. See below for details on our full experience. For the full list of activities offered at Nanuku, check out Nanuku’s site.

THE LUXURY SPA

Wellness is renowned in the South Pacific and even more-so in Fijian culture, focusing on traditional rituals and ancient methods taking you to their heritage roots. Treatments take place in private suites or in an open-air private platform suspended among the trees.

NANUKU PRIVATE ISLAND

We cannot recommend the Nanuku private island experience enough. This was the highlight of our entire trip to Fiji. With water an unparalleled blue in the famous Beqa Lagoon, privacy to the highest degree, and a full day of paradise all at your leisure.

The trip includes a private boat out to the island, taking you through highlights of Beqa Lagoon, an island all to yourself, snorkel gear to check out local fish, fresh fruit, and other snacks provided by your skippers. And, if you’re lucky, you may even get to enjoy fresh fish speared by your skipper.

FAREWELL CEREMONY + DINNER

In Fiji, once you are welcomed at a resort you are considered family and part of their home. The welcoming nature of the Fijian people is something you will feel through and through at Nanuku, their customized attention and care come from an authentic piece of Fijian culture.

The staff at Nanuku will connect a face a name by day two and will not go a day without acknowledging you. During our time at Nanuku, any passing by of staff initiated a “Bula Mr. Adam and Miss Adam” (took me a minute to get past that part haha) and a warm smile.

When the time comes for your farewell, don’t expect to leave without a proper goodbye. On your last night, you will be treated with a traditional Fijian ceremony and farewell song, free dessert and a special thank you.
